4 hot dog buns
2 tbsp butter, softened
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
2 hot dogs, split lengthwise
3 cups shredded cheddar
4 scallions, sliced

Grilled Cheese Dogs - Camp Cook Style Directions

  1. Flatten buns with a rolling pin. In a small bowl, stir butter, garlic powder, and onion powder. Spread all over outsides of buns.
  2. Working in batches if needed, in a large skillet over medium heat, sear hot dogs, turning occasionally, until charred, about 2 minutes per side.
  3. Place a bun butter mixture side down in skillet and top with 1/2 cup cheddar, a hot dog, a little more cheddar, and one-quarter of scallions.
  4. Cover and cook over medium heat until cheese melts, then use a spatula to close bun. Repeat with remaining ingredients to make 4 cheese dogs total.

Notes

MAKE THEM FANCIER with Gruyère and caramelized onions or provolone cheese and peppers.
